Krugerrand

On this page, you’ll find the South African Gold Krugerrand, most famously known for being the first modern bullion coin available to the international market. The Gold Krugerrand, also referred to as the rand, is associated with the Witwatersrand basin known as the world’s largest gold reserves discovered in 1886.

On the obverse you'll find the likeness of Paul Kruger, South Africa’s first and only president and on the reverse, the national animal of South Africa, the springbok antelope.

Each Gold Krugerrand contains 1 oz of .9167 of fine gold with the remaining alloy of copper. The Krugerrand value is determined by its Gold content plus a premium which is dictated by market conditions.

Over the decades, they've been among the most successful coins in the history of modern gold bullion.
